Build Out the Most Popular Stories More On-Air and Online

By Tom Dolan

Acknowledge stories you know your viewers and users are following from your web site's "Most Popular" list by citing them and going deeper with coverage. Have your Producers monitor the list and even raise the level of "engagement" by showcasing a Comments section. Then have your web editor follow-up and investigate the user comments for further story leads.
Two types of meningitis outbreaks kept that story on KY3 "Most Popular" list for days in Springfield, MO. At least 2 soldiers died of viral meningitis and two children had bacterial meningitis. The KY3 Reporter did a basic explainer piece and then tagged the coverage with this web desk link to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) site medical information.
They later linked it to their site and included it in their Family Health "Ask KY3" section of the site.
