Let Viewers & Users Know You Have Good Stories on the Economy Everyday

By Tom Dolan

There's hardly a more important mission right now for News managers and Producers than producing solid daily coverage of the day's economic stories. That includes interpreting the top of the story, truth squading the political statements and explaining clearly what the developments mean. The best way to insure sustained daily coverage would be to build infrastructure in you newsroom from planning to presentation. Have staff in charge of generating original, promotable content and others for designing showcased elements. Make sure your Anchors and Reporters know what's expected as well.
With that kind of commitment, the staff will understand it means keeping the story alive from many and diverse sources. A great place to start every day is Al Tompkins' "Morning Meet" blog. In a recent column, titled "Finding Ways to Teach Young People About Finances" Al wrote "Financial literacy" is as hot a topic as I know of right now.
It includes an excellent Wall Street Journal video recap of what happened, why, and what's next. But the important thing is to develop a following that you are all over this important, ongoing story. It also helps project you know what has value for your viewer/user and what to do about it.
