The Night the TVs Go Out

February 18, 2009 may not be as far away as some think. A recent article in The Washington Post voices the concern that millions of TVs could go dark.Television sets relying on "rabbit ears" or rooftop antennas will end up showing only snow if owners do not purchase a new TV or special converter box. Some are concerned that the word of the new technology is not reaching everyone. Hard to reach demographics such as the elderly, rural and non-English-speaking are the highest at risk of losing their programs. "There is no one in charge, and that is cause for concern," said Mark L. Goldstein, director of physical infrastructure issues for the GAO. "There is no comprehensive planning effort, and no one is assessing what gaps exist." Click here to read more.
